Roman Circle (Mission Statement)

High school alumni have thousands of years of collective experience, representing a vast resource to society and a vital role to play.

Roman Circle, founded at the 50th reunion of the Los Angeles High School (LAHS) Class of 1958, serves to vitalize ongoing alumni social interaction, including talking about and doing things to meet critical challenges of our time and engaging current LAHS student bodies in the process.

Alumni on Campus (AoC)

A project created by Roman Circle to help LAHS regain a quality of education and student body spirit similar to what we knew in past years. We think that alumni role models working with students and teachers on campus can serve as positive influences in the lives of high school students and on the school’s culture. Whatever its future configuration, as long as there is an LA High, we the alumni have a role to play.

Public School Choice (PSC)

In the Summer of 2010, the future Los Angles High School (LAHS) stands in doubt. Bearing the name of the city in which it was erected, it opened as the first public high school in southern California In 1873. At no time in its history has it ever been "on the carpet" for failures to educate students, until now.

What has changed and what has to change to restore this 137 year-old urban senior high school known for its excellence to former viability and for future sustainability?

These questions are the focus of this LA High Alumni website and Roman Circle Public Schools Choice (PSC) Forum.

With your participation we can create a base of information and ideas though which we can identify both the problems and solutions to help save Los Angeles High School and meet the challenges of providing secondary public education in the 21st century.

Through our collaborative efforts as alumni of all stripe -- students, educators, school support staff, parents and neighborhood residents, community business people, clergy and local city workers, etc. -- we hold the resources needed to educate our youth.
